How often should you clean your windows in South Dakota?
For most homes, we recommend at least two cleanings per year — but timing matters more than you might think.

How often do I need my windows cleaned?
For residential homes, you should wash your windows at least twice per year. Leaving environmental contaminants on your glass for months can lead to staining and damage. Living in such a windy location, we also have dirt and dust to contend with. Because of these factors, many of our residential clients choose to have more frequent services during the summer months.
Why the timing matters
Our weather does many things to glass. Winter weather can cause salt spray and de-icer from roads to splash onto windows. These leave stains that can be difficult to clean. Springtime brings pollen, cottonwood fluff, and sprinkler overspray. Hot, dry summers bring more dirt and dust that stick to windows, plus dirt stuck on screens from opening windows more often. And fall is harvest time, when we see the most wear on our exterior windows. Because of these environmental factors, we recommend scheduling at least two cleanings each year: one in the spring and one in the fall. These two cleanings will give you the most bang for your buck.
More factors to consider
Depending on where you live and how much wear and tear your windows face, you may need to clean them more often. Here are a few more factors you should consider:
- Sprinkler systems: If you have sprinklers that spray onto your glass, you will need to clean your windows more often. Hard water on glass means mineral deposits sitting on your windows. The longer they sit, the harder they are to remove.
- Gravel roads or construction: If you live on a gravel road or there is construction in your area, the extra dust adds up. Most farmhouses we clean request monthly service throughout the summer months when dust levels are highest.
- Trees: If you have many trees close to your house, the sap and pollen can quickly dirty your windows.
- Pets and children: Pets and children leave interior glass smudged with fingerprints and noseprints. We love cleaning up after pets and children, and we use safe soaps so that your whole family stays safe and healthy. Even if they happen to lick the window.
What about commercial buildings?
The standard for commercial buildings is at least one cleaning per month. Commercial spaces go through much more wear than residential homes. They are also typically located on high-traffic roads, which kick up dust and precipitation. We service commercial clients weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly depending on their location.
